Quote of the month: "If the liberties of the American people are ever destroyed, they will fall by the hands of the clergy." General Marquis De Lafayette |
Wow. This has been a terrific month for the Association. I think we've gotten in the past few weeks more publicity than I would have ever dreamed. It's making for a lot of contacts from the curious, and several new faces visiting us at our meetings. This is getting good, folks!
To the delight of many, we had a columnist from the Greensboro News and Record come out to visit us this month. The folks who attended (including a couple of new visitors) participated in a pretty wide-ranging discussion on the nature of morality. Nancy McLaughlin (our columnist visitor) taped the conversation and made several good comments on her part of the discussion.
I thought it was quite a good event. Nancy is a devout Christian, and the group was very friendly toward her. She certainly was pleased and impressed with what she saw. We know this because a couple of days later, she placed a very nice write-up for the meeting (with no names mentioned, out of respect for many folks' request for privacy) in her blog "The Front Pew." This turned out to be a very cool thing, as the entry about us generated more comments than any other topic that has been in that blog.
Also, we took another stab at radio advertising this month. Every Friday, we had 2 announcements presented about the Association on WFDD. As with the last time, we had some slight increase in the level of hits to the group web site. But this time, we actually received e-mail as a result of our efforts. Certainly, the expense is rather large ($200 this time around, all told), but it seems to be effective.
With Spring in the air, and NCAA basketball behind us, I'm hoping that we can have a good turnout this month. Considering the latest developments in the news, I was thinking it might be interesting to discuss bioethics at our next meeting. I know a lot of people have gone bonkers over the Schiavo case in Florida, so I sort f expect that there will be some strong feelings. Still, I think we might be able to have a pretty interesting discussion on a few of the questions this case has raised in our minds.
As always, be sure to write me if you have any questions. Take care, and I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone this month!
