News for June, 2004

Greetings, everyone!

It's about time to go into Summer Operating Mode. For some folks, that implies vacation, sleepy afternoons, and the eternal quest for ample shade and a fan. Or air conditioning. It's all good.

Meeting Notes

May was a pretty nice month for the Association. At our monthly meeting, we gathered together a nice collection of books to start our own Freethought Library. Thanks for Rachel Ryding, and her Mom, Cheryl, for donating their time and materials to pull the library together. I've been clearing out some old book shelves (due to James moving to his first apartment near his school) and it looks like we have several more interesting items to place in the library. Hopefully, this will provide to all our members a good resource for learning and entertainment.

June's plans

June is going to be pretty busy. First off, we will have our regular monthly meeting at the Unitarian church at 4:00 on Sunday, June 13. Hopefully, the number 13 won't cause us any bad luck.

Also, we have again secured a shelter at Hagan Stone Park in Guilford County for our second annual Summer Solstice Potluck Picnic. Man, it's great to be able to say "second annual"! Anyway, we're going to be putting together the festivities starting at 11:00 on Saturday, the 19th, and we have Shelter #3 for the day. Click here to see the Park's web site.

I expect that when we hold our meeting the week before this, I'll be asking for volunteers to help with the "infrastructure" of the picnic. Hopefully, we'll have an even bigger turnout than the couple dozen folks we had last year. As I did last year, I'll be putting a notice in the local newspapers (the ones that consider us an actual group, that is), so we might get some new folks coming out to join us. Anyway, mark your calendars!
