News for June 2005

Quote of the month:

There is not a truth existing which I fear... or would wish unknown to the whole world.

- Thomas Jefferson

I could start this month by talking about the weather, but I won't. For those of the group who are in the Yahoo! e-mail group, it has been sort of fun looking in on the Greensboro News and Record web logs. A few of us have been playing tag with the creationists who are responding to a set of articles on evolution from a couple of weeks ago. Nice way to pass the time, if you have it.

May notes:

Last month, I got the group all set to participate in a film project by a small-time producer from South Carolina at our last meeting. The idea was to bring in a camera and film us talking about the concept of separation of church and state. Unfortunately, hardly anyone showed up for that, including the film crew. Some expressed reservations regarding being in a documentary when we knew nothing about the company involved. I expect others had a choice between the PFA and doing something for Mother's Day. So we ended up with a small group. Those who came enjoyed the talk of various current events. We held off on the church/state business in case we decided to try again later.

Coming up in June:

For the last 2 years, the PFA has had a Summer Solstice picnic. Unfortunately, this year will need to be different, primarily because the treasury does not hold enough money to rent a park shelter. In talking with Colette Abegglen, she has offered to allow us to come visit her home on Sunday, June 26 for a potluck get-together. I was thinking we could also sit and enjoy watching the movie "Saved!" -- a pretty cool movie about fun and games at a private evangelical Christian school. If we get together at 3:00 that day, there should be plenty of time for socializing, scarfing whatever folks bring and watching the movie.

As always, be sure to write me if you have any questions. Take care, and I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone this month!
