Quote of the month: "Happiness is the only good, reason the only torch, justice the only worship, humanity the only religion, and love the only priest." [Robert G. Ingersoll, Eulogy for his brother, Eben] |
Things have been hopping at the PFA this past month. It has been pretty invigorating. Just about as bracing as the chill in the air, which I'm sure we all hope will get out of town quickly.
We had a pretty small turnout at our February meeting, but there was a new member to join, so that was pretty cool. We talked for a little over an hour about various items, and got caught up with everyone's lives. I asked for more volunteers for the trip out to UNC-TV to help with the Festival. In the end I had a list of 6 folks who agreed to come out for the mid-day shift.
When it came to the day, Liz, Mary, Monroe, Tony and Eric arrived at the station. I have to say I admire Mary's dedication... she was recovering from a pretty bad night with some sort of stomach ailment. Luckily, the workload was light. And the free food was pretty decent. Unfortunately, the PFA got upstaged by the model railroad club that shared the stage with us. Ah well. Overall, it was a pretty nice day, I thought.
One interesting offer that came our way in February was for inexpensive announcements on WFDD during the month of March. For $25 a pop, we would be able to get our announcement read during the new daytime programming. I talked it over with folks, and a few of us decided to chuck in $200 to buy 8 announcements, to be placed 2 per Friday during the month of March. We will learn the exact times for each day's placements on every Thursday, and I'll pass that info on to you when I get it.
Also, we will be getting a visit from a local celebrity this month. Nancy McLaughlin, who runs the "Front Pew" blog on the News and Record web site, and is a religion columnist for the newspaper, will be visiting us in March. She has expressed some curiosity about what a get-together of a bunch of atheists, agnostics and so forth would be like. I expect some interesting exchanges. I also expect that she'll find our library quite interesting.
One last item. The Dead Sea Scroll exhibit is staying in the area until April 1. I'd love to go and see that. If others in the group are keen on it, let's sit down at the next meeting and decide on a day we'd all like to troop down to High Point for a tour.
As always, be sure to write me if you have any questions. Take care, and I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone this month!
