News for May 2005

First, the Big News:

At our next meeting, we will be playing host to a film maker who is putting together a documentary on the separation of church and state. Thanks to Wayne Aiken, we have come in contact with a fellow from South Carolina who wanted to film a group like ours having a discussion on the topic. I don't have any details on what more they are interested in, but I expect that we will not be expected to dress any differently from our normal attire.

I expect that some in the group will be more interested in coming out, while others will be less. That's cool. I think that those who do participate will find the experience quite interesting.

April notes:

We had quite a large turnout last month, as we discussed the Terri Schiavo case and other interesting aspects of bioethics. The talk was quite enjoyable, and I think everyone had a wonderful time.

I mentioned the coming appearance of John Shelby Spong in Greensboro on May 1 and 2, but unfortunately, I was unable to attend. I hope that one or two of the group were able to make it out to hear him. I think he's one of the most interesting of the "liberal" Christian leaders in the country today.

May notes:

In addition to the film work (and the government topic of discussion) I'd like to discuss the upcoming summer months. Over the past couple of years, we've had a group picnic for the summer solstice. I was the driving force behind these events, but I'm wondering if anyone else would like to help out with this sort of thing this year.

At any rate, I hope we can talk briefly about what we would like to do socially over the summer. There really ought to be a few good ideas we can come up with.

As always, be sure to write me if you have any questions. Take care, and I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone this month!
