Quote for the month:

People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.
-- Soren Kierkegaard

Greetings, all!

Well, it's been a fairly quiet month, here at the end of August. I don't know about you, but I've been really looking forward to September. I think this month will be full of new, interesting things for us. But before I go into details, I need to talk a little about the August meeting.

Our attendance bounced back to a good, healthy level for August. We had a new member join and our Librarians brought the library in, giving everyone a chance to exchange books and find new material to look over. Thanks again to Wayne for his contribution of several very cool books. The "Dial an Atheist" book got a lot of attention! And, as always, thanks to Rachel and Cheryl Ryding for all their work for the group!

September notes:

First off, we discussed possible dates for a trip to the North Carolina Zoo, and we decided to give it a go for Saturday, Sept 11. I plan to be at the Africa Entrance (less crowded, you see) at 10:00 AM that day. I'll have a chest of ice that we can pool our picnic lunches in, and the only costs for the day will be your gas, admission ($10.00 for Adults, $6.00 for kids, students and senior citizens 62 and over) and any souvenirs you care to purchase. We'll enter and tour Africa together for a couple of hours, go out for a picnic lunch, then dive back in to scatter to the winds. For directions and other info, here's the zoo's web site.

Also, Colette Abegglen has offered us a chance to come visit her and Hugh on Sunday afternoon, Sept 26 for a movie and snackies. We decided at our August meeting to plan on watching "Life of Brian." Certainly, this will result in a lot more fun than our first movie, "The Magdalene Sisters." And these days, we sure could all use as much comedy in our lives as we can get. Anyway, be sure to bring a little something for the potluck to share with the group. We had a pretty good turnout last May, but there was still plenty of space for extra folks.

For directions to Colette's home, I'll be sure to send that information out under a separate e-mail.

One more thing. I plan to take some time on Labor Day weekend to spread a bunch of posters around the various college campuses, inviting Freethinkers to look us up on the web and come out to visit us... so September's meeting might be a bit more crowded than usual... which would be terrific!

Our next meeting will be on Sunday, September 12 at 4:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro. I hope everyone can make it!
